Positive News – Affordadble Housing
California’s construction industry has several encouraging developments to be grateful for this year, especially as the state pushes to expand housing and improve infrastructure. One of the biggest wins is the state’s $414 million investment in affordable housing, funding 30 projects that will create or rehabilitate more than 2,000 homes for low-income families. This aligns with California’s broader goal of increasing housing supply while promoting equity across communities.
CEQA Reform
Another major milestone is the passage of CEQA reform, which streamlines approvals for housing and infrastructure projects. These long-awaited changes are expected to cut costly delays and help builders deliver units faster—an important victory for contractors, developers, and Californians facing housing shortages.
Senate Bill 79
The construction industry is also benefiting from Senate Bill 79, which opens zoning for multi-family housing near transit stations. This pro-housing law could unlock significant development opportunities and help cities address affordability challenges.
Water Infrastructure
In addition, California continues to invest in water infrastructure, including $70 million for new drinking-water projects that will improve service for over 22,000 residents in under-served communities.
From funding boosts to regulatory improvements, these developments show strong progress—and give the construction sector real reasons to be thankful.
